A Professional Solicitor is an individual or company hired by a charitable organization to solicit donations on its behalf The State of Tennessee requires all Professional Solicitors to register and become licensed with the Tennessee Secretary of State. Although a solicitor may be referred to as a “telemarketer,” the method of raising funds can occur by telephone, direct mail, door-to-door requests or selling tickets to an event. Licensees must post and maintain a $25,000 Professional Solicitor of Charitable Funds License Surety Bond .
